Although this isn’t exactly mind bending news, it is notable: The Avengers 2 finally has a release date. Now that Marvel has the director locked down—news broke earlier this month that Joss Whedon had officially signed on to write and direct a film for what assumes was several dump trucks full of money—they can and did officially announce the film’s release date today.
In a bit of good news to counter the bad that slipped out earlier today—Robert Downey Jr.’s ankle injury slowing the production of Iron Man 3—The Avengers 2 will open on May 1, 2015. As noted above, it will be written and directed by Joss Whedon, and is expected to star Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner. /Film notes that The Avengers 2 will likely incorporate the new characters and storylines featured in Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man.
The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015.
Note that the film has yet to receive an official title, indicating that it will like be a “subtitle” film, along the lines of The Avengers: Sweet Moses This Sucker Is Going To Make More Money Than Everyone You’ll Ever Meet In Seven Lifetimes.
