As Arnold Schwarzenegger has been telling us for nearly three decades, he’s back. But this time, he means back into movies after his cameos in The Expendables movies. Arnie has returned to action with the film The Last Stand, which hits theaters January 13, 2013.

The film also features Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare and the incomparable Luis Guzman. It’s directed by Kim Jee-Woon (I Saw the Devil), who is one of the best Korean directors working today. The tone seems about right, and it looks like a solid piece of action, though – as always – it will be interesting to see how Schwarzenegger works as an actor. This looks to be a bit more serious than his turns in the Expendables movies, but the one liners are there (“How are you feeling?” “Old.”). But the cast and director make this a must-see.

The biggest question the trailer asks is: Knoxville, really? Though 80′s and 90′s action movies were replete with comedic sidekick characters, often played by people like Tom Arnold and Rob Schneider, we haven’t seen much of that of late (comic-book heroes provide their own one liners). And his costuming and behavior seems a bit over the top. Which could be awesome. We’ll know come January.

Are you happy that Schwarzenegger is back to acting?
