Kathryn Bigelow’s follow up to the Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker got an unexpected boost from real life events last year—Zero Dark Thirty, the story about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, got an ending when the real SEAL Team Six succeeded in their mission to take down the terrorist leader.  And thus, Zero Dark Thirty got an ending.  And now, the first teaser of Bigelow’s anticipated new film is available—check it out below.

The film is reportedly about Bigelow’s fascination with the people charged with taking bin Laden down, or, as she puts it, the men and women “who dedicate themselves to really difficult and dangerous things for the greater good…I personally want to know how they caught bin Laden.”

Further, the Hurt Locker writer-director states that “all I can do is hope that it interests other people.”  Which, given the subject matter, we can pretty much guarantee that.

Check out the pseudo-redacted teaser below:

While the film deals with a highly politicized issue, Bigelow’s screenwriting partner Mark Boal notes that “there’s no political agenda in the film.  Full stop.  Period.  A lot of people are going to be surprised when they see the film.  For example, the president is not depicted in the movie.  He’s just not in the movie.”

How accurate the film is, or how much of bin Laden’s real-life demise it includes, remains to be seen.  Zero Dark Thirty, starring Jessica Chastain and Chris Pratt, is set for a December 19th release.
