While most films released this summer don’t really need a sequel (unless you count The Amazing Spider-Man, which needs a sequel simply for Sony to maintain rights to the franchise), Ridley Scott’s Prometheus may be one of the only films that could possibly be enriched a sequel to explain away some glaring plot holes/ character motivations/ muddled questions. So the news that it’s getting a previously discussed sequel isn’t bad at all; however, it also comes on the heels of the announcement that both Ted and American Reunion are getting the sequel treatment as well.
Despite the fact that American Reunion seemed to more or less bring things full circle in terms of watching Jason Biggs clumsily masturbate for the past 13 years, Universal has decided that, no, there are still more tales to tell and more hilarity to be wrought from watching an increasingly aging and puffy cast learn life lesson while desperately trying to wring new storylines out of Porky’s.
Along with the American Reunion sequel is Universal’s just announced follow-up to Ted, which makes more sense as people seemed to actually enjoy this film (unlike American Reunion). And who wouldn’t like to see more of the lovable antics of a horny teddy bear? Sure you would.
As for that Prometheus sequel, look for it to pop up around 2014 or 2015. Don’t expect writer Damon Lindeloff, who will be involved in other projects; that said, Ridley Scott, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender are all set to return.
What do you think of the sequel news?
