Following the abomination which occurred last week during the midnight premiere screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado—in which an armed gunman shot and killed 12 film goes and wounded an additional 58—the composer of The Dark Knight Rises’ score has come forward with a fundraiser for the victims. Hans Zimmer has composed a new track, “Aurora,” from which all sales profits to a relief fund for victims of the shooting.
It’s a touching and admirable move from the composer, using his art and craft to try and stem some of the horror of this unspeakably awful event. Listeners can donate anything from 10 cents to $2,500 to hear the track, and to help the victims of this terrible assault.
Zimmer stated that “Aurora” is “dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado,” and was composed in London in the days following the shooting “as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families.” Zimmer also notes that 100% of the proceeds from the track will be donated to the Aurora Victim Relief fund.
