Hey, if you’re wanting what appears to be a shallow and superficial film about the shallow and superficial world of modern pornography, have we got the movie for you—About Cherry.  Directed by Stephen Elliott and scripted by former porn star Lorelei Lee, the film’s trailer plays like a sterile take on the Boogie Nights formula—naïve potential starlet enters the industry, makes friends, finds success, gets in over her head, and faces difficult personal situations—but without any of that earlier film’s energy or imagination.

The story of an 18 year old naïve girl (of course) who escapes a troubled home life with an alcoholic mother (of course) and abusive father (of course) and finds success in the world of pornography (of course), About Cherry is a scriptwriting 101 list of clichés.  There’s the mean mom, the bad dad, the best friend secretly in love (Dev Patel), the sleazy potential threat (James Franco), and the seasoned porn vet (Heather Graham)… sigh, just watch the trailer and get it over with, despite the fact that you’ve probably seen 10 films with the same plot before.

About Cherry also stars Ashley Hinshaw, Lili Taylor, and Stephen Wiig, and is set for a September 21 release.
