The Bourne Legacy hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but people are already wondering and speculating what the next movie will be about. Some say that the 5th Bourne may team up Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner, but that remains to be seen. For now, producer Frank Marshall has confirmed that the next installment will definitely follow Renner’s character Aaron Cross.
Earlier today, at the press conference for The Bourne Legacy, the producer said that the next sequel could go anywhere, but that one thing was definite.
“We’re going to follow Jeremy’s character. Everything else is wide open. That’s the great thing about this. The table is set to go any direction we want to, but we will, I’m sure, follow Jeremy and Rachel (Weisz), and see what happens.”
Producer Pat Crowley was also present at the press conference and had nothing but nice things to say about Renner. He spoke about their casting process and how they eventually decided he was the right man for the job.
“We looked at a number of people when we very first started out and I think we kept coming back to Jeremy. There’s an accessibility to him. There’s a vulnerability to him which a more polished actor might not communicate to the audience [as well].”
Both producers praised Renner’s physicality and called him a “movie athlete” and “extraordinary.”
Universal hasn’t announced any plans beyond The Bourne Legacy, but it’s nice to know that if they did decide to green light the project, Renner would be involved. The ultimate thing would be to see him and Damon join forces. Last we heard, he was open to it.
The Bourne Legacy hits theaters August 10, 2012.
