Say this for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire casting: They’re not going with easy names. Catching Fire just added Amanda Plummer to its roster as Wiress, who’s nicknamed “Nuts,” and is a veteran tribute from District 3 who’s put back into the games by the “Quarter Quell” – The Hunger Games version of a Battle Royale that brings in all the all-stars. And it sounds like she’s in for a nasty fight.
She joins the returning cast along with the recently added Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jena Malone. Though Plummer worked actively in the early 90′s, including such films as The Fisher King and Pulp Fiction, she transitioned into being a working actress, doing small parts, and working in independent productions and TV guest spots on shows like Battlestar Galactica. This would be her biggest mainstream movie in quite some time.
Her role is supposedly crucial to the plot as she teams up with Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss Everdeen in a good way, and this film plants even more seeds for rebellion, which will likely happen in the spread-over-two-film conclusion to the series. Since it would involve possible spoilers, we didn’t look to see if the character has a role in Mockingjay. Catching Fire hits theaters November 22, 2013.
