Well, we’ve just kicked off Season 5 of Breaking Bad, and the question that was on everyone’s lips has just been answered. Which question is that, you ask?  Simply this: will there or will there not be a Breaking Bad film to wrap up the series?  According to star and executive producer Bryan Cranston, it’s certainly a possibility.  However, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan doesn’t exactly seem hopeful (while never actually ruling a film out).

The news that all hopes have been dashed came in today’s Gilligan interview with Rolling Stone magazine, and has directly contradicted Bryan Cranston’s musings that a future movie could be on the cards:

“I’ve learned a long time ago to never say never, but it is definitely not, in any way shape or form, on my personal radar. We’ve been given this wonderful opportunity to know exactly when we’re going to end and to be able to work toward it. You don’t want to be George Foreman and keep coming out of retirement. I’m going to tell every goddamn last bit of story I can possibly get in there with these next 16 episodes. I want it to end with the last 10 seconds of picture on the very last episode and I want– My fervent dream is for this show to end and for people to say, ‘Oh my God, that was what I hoped for and I’m going to miss it – now, what’s on next?’”

Now that Gilligan has quashed any false hope fans may have been harboring, it seems that with only 15 more episodes to go, this is truly going to be the end for Walter White and co.

Only last month Cranston was quoted saying maybe a Breaking Bad feature film could be a way to put an end to the series, possibly a year after the series drops off.

“I wouldn’t mind visiting that possibility…And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t know anything of how the show’s going to end. If it doesn’t end up in a total apocalypse, who knows? Maybe we could revisit Walter White a year down the road and see where his life has gone. If he’s still alive, that is.”

Well, it was a nice thought while it lasted, Bryan.  Looks like five excellent seasons is really all we can, or should, ask for.

Are you disappointed, or are you happy with the run Breaking Bad has had?
