Game of Thrones was upgraded at this year’s Comic-Con, one of the few TV series (following directly after The Walking Dead) to appear in the 7,000 seat auditorium known as Hall H. Here’s the problem with Game of Thrones the TV series – nothing. Sadly, the problem that they had with the panel was also nothing, but without the positive spin. They had nothing to show, no new info, the show runners were all away making the show, the actors only spoke about the previous season, there was no witty Peter Dinklage and there was nothing new to reveal. It was sad to see such a great TV show make it into the Hall and not be given it’s best chance.
The panel included cast members Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), Richard Madden (Rob Stark), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Rose Leslie (Ygritte) and exec producer Carolyn Strauss. That being said, the show is phenomenal, the makers, the source material, the actors, are all wonderful, but at Comic-Con we expect more than just to be able to look at a few of the people involved.
We want the people involved, we want the details, we want the stars and all the shiny new footage to wow us. The problem is, they’ve just wrapped last season and the new season is only just about to shoot. Which meant that they had no new footage to show, only footage from the last season.
The other main problem was that the only new information that they gave us (some of the new actors/characters introducing themselves) they posted online at the exact same time as the panel, which really takes away from the magic of having to wait for hours in the Hall H line and then make it into a room with 7,000 fans who ALL want to be a part of something special.
And George R. R. Martin, you wrote some amazing novels that have been adapted so well and you’re cute as a button, but possibly not the best moderator for a Hall H panel when you’re not allowed to talk about the story… only the sex. Did someone tell him to do that? My guess is yes, but then again, I HAVE seen the series, so who knows who drives the sex there.
That being said, it was lovely to see a number of our favorite faces join the panel, watch some of the highlights below…
