Edgar Wright has directed some of the best and most entertaining cult films of the past decade—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and news broke today that he’s officially set to make yet another: The World’s End. Not only did the film just get green-lit by Universal, today, it got a teaser poster as well.
The World’s End is the third entry in Wright’s Cornetto trilogy (a “blood and ice cream trilogy” that features recurring jokes about the British ice cream Cornetto; the other two films in the trilogy are Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), and was co-written by Shaun and Fuzz star Simon Pegg. Pegg wil also star in the film, along Cornetto trilogy veteran Nick Frost.
Universal Pictures has officially green-lit the film, which will shoot in October in the U.K., and just received the teaser poster treatment:
As for the plot, The World’s End concerns a group of five friends 20 years after they first attempted an “epic pub crawl,” with one of the friends determined to accomplish the gargantuan drinking marathon. Somehow, as the group struggles to make it to the final pub on their list (The World’s End), they realize that powerful things are happening, and that the future of humankind may be in their hands. Think Shaun of the Dead, but more sci-fi than horror.
