AMC’s The Walking Dead returned to Comic-Con for the third time but this year the popular zombie series was given the grand stage of Hall H. After delivering what some complained to be a slow and uneventful second season showrunner Glen Mazzara along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Dan Albert, and Co-Exexutive Producer and FX Make-Up master Greg Nicotero came prepared to assure their hordes of fans that season 3 ramps up the action with an incredibly tense and action filled trailer.
Also on hand were cast members Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, and Lauren Cohan. True to series form Chandler Riggs who plays Carl was nowhere to be found. Making their Comic-Con debuts were David Morrisey and Danai Gurira who join Season 3 as the long-awaited characters of The Governor and the samurai-sword-wielding-badass Michonne. As some of you may recall Season 2 ended with Laurie Holden’s Andrea being rescued from hungry zombies by a mysterious hooded woman which was the premier of Michonne on the show but her face was concealed because Gurira had not yet been cast.
Along with the trailer, it was announced that the series would return October 14th both Stateside and around the world.
The trailer promises a much darker/moodier setting with the new prison environment, awesome Michonne action and more zombies than our group of survivors could ever hope to have enough ammo for, and the first footage of a fan-favorite villain from the comic book The Governor. Morrisey’s clean-shaven Governor looks radically different from his black-and-white counterpart but the attitude and charisma of the character appears to remain intact. It ends with a spoiler-ish reveal. But if you are worried about that why have you read this far?
