Well, we’re less than two weeks away from the release of 2012’s most anticipated film: The Dark Knight Rises. And while we don’t have anything too spoilery to give away—Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Robin! Catwoman kills Alfred! It was all a dream of Commissioner Gordon’s! (I’m making these up, don’t panic)—we do have something pretty cool: the entire score for The Dark Knight Rises, for your listening pleasure.
Composed and conducted by Hans Zimmer, who composed the score for The Dark Knight and co-wrote the score for Batman Begins with James Newton Howard, the score for The Dark Knight Rises is at once both more epic and more funereal than the last two booming blasts of Bat-soundtracks. I’m not saying you can glean spoilers simply from listening to it, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if a few main characters are dead by the end of some of these tunes (note: the player below begins with the first song, 37 seconds in length–hit “menu” to select the remaining songs on the soundtrack).
The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Caine. Directed by Christopher Nolan (with a screenplay by Nolan and his brother, Jonathan—based, apparently, on Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities). The film will be the final entry into the extraordinarily successful rebooted Batman franchise trilogy, and is set for a July 20 release.
What do you think of the soundtrack?
