How does this sound for a killer two hours in a movie theater: in a cinematic tribute to the Toho Studios Godzilla and giant monster films, Pacific Rim features gargantuan killer beasts begin rising from the Pacific Ocean in the future.  Humanity’s only hope?  A series of gigantic robots that must be telepathically controlled by two pilots at a time.  Oh, and Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) is directing.  Interested?

We thought so.  And in the first major tease from the film, it has received it’s very own Comic-Con poster.  The film will have its very own Comic-Con panel this Saturday in Hall H, where footage from the highly anticipated tribute to giant monster movies may debut.  For now, however, fans of big beasts stomping buildings will have to abide with this new poster.  The one sheet features two pilots standing upon a Jaeger (the Jaeger is the name for the giant battle robots which “are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.”

If the film sounds a little nutty, well, it is.  But if any director is capable of such genre-hopping weirdness, it may be Guillermo del Toro.  For now, we’ll simply have to settle for the poster, and pretend it doesn’t sorta-kinda remind us of Robot Jox.

Pacific Rim is set for  July 12, 2013 release, and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi.

What do you think of the poster?
