With Comic Con just around the corner, it seems likely that Marvel will finally reveal the other big movie, besides Captain America 2, it has planned for 2014. For now, we get to speculate that Guardians of the Galaxy is that other blockbuster, and the evidence is mounting.

There’s been some schedule changes in the Box Office Mojo calendar. Most notably it’s that Disney and Marvel Studios have moved their mysterious untitled second 2014 movie from May 16, 2014 to August 1, 2014. That’s a whole three months!

Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are scheduled to arrive in May and November of 2013, followed by  Captain America 2 on April 4, 2014.

It makes perfect sense that Guardians of the Galaxy is that other movie. Since it would pave the way for The Avengers sequel, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy was created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. The comic was introduced in 1969 as a team of heroes in the 31st century – each member was the last of his kind – that unites to defend Earth’s solar system from the invading Badoon. The Guardians were reintroduced, and reimagined, in 2008 by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Paul Pelletier in a series that spun out of the “Annihilation: Conquest” storyline. The team roster included Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Star-Lord, Mantis, Moondragon, Drax the Destroyer, Bug and Major Victory.

Like we mentioned earlier, expect an official announcement next week during Comic Con.

What do you think? Will Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters in 2014?
