Well, this certainly is interesting—call me crazy, but the trailer for the upcoming Total Recall remake actually looks, well, kind of fun. Big, dumb, mindless summer movie fun, but still kind of fun nonetheless. Yes, that’s right—somehow, a Len Wiseman film looks like it may well be worth anticipating and actually watching.
Sony has just released a new trailer for the remake of Paul Verhoeven’s Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring 1990 film, itself based upon a Phillip K. Dick short story. Starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, and Bryan Cranston, the film is set for an August 3 release, and sports a grungy, Blade Runner meets Minority Report look.
Based on the story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, Total Recall is the story of Douglas Quaid (Farrell) who, despite living in a future fantasia and marrying Kate Beckinsale, decides he needs to take a break from reality. Quaid visits a company called Rekall, a business that will implant Quaid with the memories of a super-spy for kind of mental vacation. However, things go awry, Quaid becomes a huntd man, his wife tires to kill him, and he teams up with a rebel fighter (Biel) who is part of a larger underground resistance, all while trying to locate the lines between fantasy, false memory, and reality.
