Already known for playing District Attorney Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, Aaron Eckhart is moving all the way up the political ladder as the President of the United States in his latest film, White House action movie, Olympus Has Fallen – one of two upcoming releases described as “Die Hard in the White House.”
But the star isn’t the only one set to play President. Earlier this month we reported on Jamie Foxx’s Presidential role in White House Down, and that it was looking doubtful whether Millennium Entertainment’s project (Olympus) would actually go ahead – now it seems that it is – after an apparent race with Sony.
Olympus is being directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and features Gerard Butler in the lead role. Written by first-timers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, it’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out. The plot follows a former Secret Service agent who becomes America’s last hope when terrorists take over 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Both films are aimed for a summer start.
When both films cross the finish line, we’ll likely have a similar situation as when the two Snow White films came out just a few months apart earlier this year. That said, the Snow White films were dramatically different from one another, and were enjoyable in their own different ways.
So with this cast line-up, could Olympus Has Fallen really get underway and end up giving the Channing Tatum-led White House Down a run for its money?
