In the past few weeks, we’ve already been hit with official pictures, a trailer, and an international trailer for the upcoming film by Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained. Starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio, the film is supposedly a Civil War-era bloodbath of a film with a spaghetti western sensibility.
Today, a new image was released, featuring DiCaprio posing as Calvin Candie, the film’s villain. While it doesn’t carry with it the lecherous charm of DiCaprio’s performance as featured in the trailers (or his rotten teeth), but you still get a feel for the pomposity of the character, thanks in part to a pompadour and ridiculous pipe.

Django Unchained concerns the story of Django (Foxx), an escaped slave, who teams up with a bounty hunter (Waltz), to rescue Django’s wife from Candie. The film co-stars Sam Jackson, Kerry Washington, Don Johnson, Garrett Dillahunt, Walton Goggins, RZA, M.C. Gainey, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, and James Remar.
Django Unchained is set for a Christmas 2012 release, and is Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film (ninth if you count his Four Rooms segment). It also marks the first time in years that DiCaprio isn’t doing his heavy-handed “furrowed brow and shouting/pouting” thing. Refreshing!
