Because the Machete franchise has increasingly become a refuge for failed or disgraced stars—say hello, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Mel Gibson—it makes complete sense that Charlie Sheen has been officially cast as the President of the United States in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete sequel, Machete Kills.

Seeing as how Rodriguez’s goal is to make the most over the top series of films possible, casting Charlie Sheen as the American president works in theory; however, Sheen’s gravel-voiced, madman schtick has really grown thin—he’s basically gone from being a human being to becoming a one-note joke that will likely grow very old long before the final Machete Kills credits roll.

Sheen joins a cast that already features the returning Danny Trejo and Jessica Alba, as well as a “leather clad” Sophia Vergara and the perpetually insane Mel Gibson as a “Bond style” supervillain.

The Machete Kills plot centers around how Machete must take out a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, as well as Mel Gibson’s Luther Voz, an evil billionaire and arms dealer who plans on launching a destructive missile at Earth via outer space.  Yes, you read that correctly.

Rodriguez announced Sheen’s casting via Twitter, noting that “I just cast Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States! Who better?”

Who would be better?
