2009’s Black Dynamite—probably the most funny of all the grindhouse/ B-movie tribute films of the last few years—has been given an animated series for the Adult Swim block of the Cartoon Network. And if it can be judged solely by the new trailer, the series if even more ridiculous than the film.
Produced by Carl Jones of The Boondocks, Black Dynamite is a half hour animated blaxploitation spoof that features the voice of Michael Jae White (Black Dynamite, Spawn) “as he fights street thugs, ninjas, the Man, and the attentions of adoring sexy women. Also returning to the world of Black Dynamite are Tommy Davidson as Cream Corn, Arsenio Hall as Tasty Freeze, Kym Whitley as Honeybee, and Byron Minns as Bullhorn.
A word of warning—while the trailer isn’t exactly Caligula, the copious violence, language, extra-long black nudity bars used to cover a nude Black Dynamite’s manhood, and multiple women filling Black Dynamite’s bed at once may make you office-goers think twice about playing the trailer with your boss standing over your shoulder.
Best bet: skip work and come home to watch the trailer. Black Dynamite is set to premiere on July 15th on the Cartoon Network.
