Another year, another chance for Liam Neeson to make you forget that he’s one of the more gifted actors of his generation, and instead star in our generation’s Charles Bronson films (the ones that Jason Statham doesn’t star in, anyway). This year’s flick? Taken 2, in which—you guessed it—more bad guys decide to take things from Liam Neeson, as they did in original Taken. That’s about as complicated as it gets.
See, Rade Sherbedgia (aka, the bum from Batman Begins and Boris the Blade from Snatch), is pissed because his son was once taken by Neeson’s character, so he gets revenge by taking Neeson’s wife—get it? That’s two “takens” in Taken 2! Now the title makes sense! On top of that, there are some pissy Albanians still smarting from all the havoc Neeson wreaked in the first film. Dig the international trailer:
Taken 2 also stars Famke Janssen, because I guess she had nothing better to do for a few weeks? The film was directed by Olivier Megaton. Good or bad, I will watch this film, simply because its director’s name is Megaton. Taken 2 hits theaters on October 5.
Oh! Neeson also tells someone on the phone again that a loved one “will be taken,” which is as close to thematic unity as we’ll get between the two films (except for the fact that, you know, they’re the exact same freaking film).
What do you think of the Taken 2 trailer?
