The Raid: Redemption:  A film in which a law enforcement team invades a tower run by a vicious crime lord.  Crime lord orders the tower full of baddies to kill the good guys before they make it to the top.  Dredd:  A film in which a law enforcement team invades a tower run by a vicious crime lord.  Crime lord orders the tower full of baddies to kill the good guys before they make it to the top.  Um, perhaps it’s just me, but the new full-length Dredd trailer seems just a smidge familiar.

That’s right—it appears that Dredd, the newest cinematic adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics, bears more than a passing similarity to the plot of The Raid: Redemption.  Of course, it’s not entirely the same: Dredd is set in a post-apocalyptic future in which humanity resides in Mega-Cities to protect themselves from mutants that dominate the radioactive desert that Earth has become.  Providing law and order in those Mega-Cities are judges like Dredd (Karl Urban)—law enforcement officers who act as on-the-spot judges, juries and executioners.

But still, the similarities are striking (though likely not on purpose, as Dredd went into production way before The Raid’s release).  Check out the trailer and judge for yourself:

Dredd is set for a September 21 release in 3D.
