Oh, for crying out loud—look, Prometheus, we get it: viral marketing is a fascinating tool that can expand the fictional universe in which a film takes place, and it’s a savvy way to advertise said film.  That said, Prometheus came very close to ratcheting things up to overkill levels with multiple viral ads; and now, despite the fact that Prometheus has already been release, a new viral ad has popped up, and it both illuminates some spoiler-heavy elements of the film, as well as teasing that something is happening this fall.

First off, close viewers of Prometheus this weekend noted that after the credits, the date 10.11.12 appears, which lead to the discovery of the What Is 10-11-12? website.  On that website, you will find a viral video that features Guy Pearce’s Peter Weylund preparing to give a speech, and stating that “I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all.”  Also on the site?  A copy of Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophical tome, Thus Spake Zarathustra.  What does it all mean?

(Seriously, we warned you.  Quit reading if you haven’t seen the movie)

Also noted on the site is that “What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not the end.”  Which makes sense if you’ve seen Prometheus, you know that a race of beings known as the Engineers created humankind, then decided to wipe us out, and possibly create the xenomorph species as seen in the Alien franchise (something like that).  So, what does it all mean?  What is 10.11.12?  No one knows for sure.  Perhaps the release date of the film’s Blu-Ray and DVD?  Will Prometheus 2 begin production then?  As is the case will all things Prometheus, the answers are muddy and ambiguous.  Your guess is as good as ours.
