Because his presence worked so well for the Blade, Wolverine, and Green Lantern franchises, Ryan Reynolds may be the next Highlander in Lionsgate’s reboot of the original 1986 film, despite the fact that the actor has failed to bring much longevity to any franchise he becomes attached to (see also: Deadpool).
Reynolds is currently taking other offers, but word is that the actor’s representatives and Lionsgate are currently in talks to seal the deal to make the actor the next Highlander. No other details about the negotiations are known, beyond the fact that they are scoring both the actor and the reboot some press during a slow news week.
The Highlander reboot is set to be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (who filled the gap after Justin Lin bailed on the project last summer), with a script by Matt Holloway, Melissa Rosenberg, and Art Marcum. No projected release date is noted.
While Lionsgate hammers out the details on Highlander, Reynolds is still rumored to star in both the Deadpool spin-off and Green Lantern 2, despite the fact that both projects have stalled. You can see him next in RIPD with Jeff Bridges on June of next year.
Would Reynolds make a decent Highlander?
