A first look at Orlando Bloom’s upcoming new drama/thriller The Good Doctor has come in the form of a trailer released via iTunes – and it gives an insight into just how dark and twisted the story is. The dark, twisted thriller is an unusual take on “boy meets girl,” when a doctor meets a sick woman, cures her, and then sabotages her treatment to keep her ill and in the hospital, as he fears losing her. The quite-intense trailer features all of that and more. Check it out below.
Here’s the full plot description:
Martin Blake (Bloom) is an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues: Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow), self-assured fellow intern Dan (Troy Garity) and no-nonsense nurse Theresa (Taraji P. Henson). But things are not going Martin’s way and he can’t seem to shake off his insecurities. When 18-year-old patient Diane (Riley Keough) is admitted for a kidney infection, Martin steps in, getting the much-needed boost of self-esteem he craves. But things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.
Things take a nasty turn, when Michael Pena discovers Blake’s misdeeds, and threatens to blow the whistle. That is, unless Blake gives him an unlimited supply of pharmaceutical-level drugs… Oh dear. Sounding good so far?
Written by Lance Daly and directed by John Enbom, this dark tale of woe should provide a nice change of pace from all the summer action blockbusters, and at the same time it’s not something you’re going to fall asleep to!
The Good Doctor is scheduled to premiere on Video-On-Demand July 27th, with a theatrical release set a month later on August 31st. You can also check out the full sharp poster we premiered last week. He seems like such a sweet boy, but just look at the intensity in those eyes.
