Last week it was revealed that the new remake of Stephen King’s Carrie is set to take on a whole new approach, using a “found footage” narrative element, and now young actress Chloe Moretz (Let Me In, Kick-Ass) has taken a brief moment to talk about her new role in the dark new adaptation of the film.
The 15-year-old was promoting new release Dark Shadows (out on May 11th) and used the opportunity to briefly discuss the beloved classic King story and director Kimberley Peirce. She told ComingSoon that they start filming on June 1st. She said: “I don’t want to jinx it, but Peirce is a genius, genius, genius director. I would never do it with someone that I don’t trust.” (Well, let’s assume she’s very bright, then, shall we?!)
Moretz went on to say that “I trust her more than a lot of the directors I’ve worked with. She’s the right woman for the job.”
Everyone remembers the iconic 1976 movie adapted by Brian De Palma, but this reboot is said to steer away from that version of the story and stay truer to the book – which should interest a lot of core Stephen King fans. Moretz is taking that to heart by letting slip that she’ll not even be looking at the original film for her character’s inspiration (let’s hope she reads the book, though!):
“I’m actually not looking at the original even though De Palma’s movie was one of the best movies ever made. It’s completely iconic and I’m proud to be able to be doing a retooling of it. We’re kind of going off the book. It’s darker and much more psychological. More ‘Black Swan.’ You’re really looking into her mind and it really looks into the relationship of Margaret and Carrie. It’s set in modern time, so it’s a lot different.”
Moretz admitted the role will be very different experience for her, and it would involve her becoming a totally different person for it. “It’s an out of body thing. I’m letting go of all of my self-esteem issues and just kind of going into it. You have to.”
Moretz seems to be taking this as a career-building experience, and it should be interesting to see how the young and emerging actress deals with the role – hopefully she’ll shine from it.
Well, the remake seems to be going in the right direction, but only time will tell – stay tuned to find out more news!
