After a month away, the witches will play. Thursday night, “The Secret Circle” returned after a long hiatus and boy, was it missed. Today, less than 24 hours after the premiere of “Lucky,” WonderCon attendees were given an exclusive first look at next week’s all-new episode, “Curse.” It features a couple returns, a big reveal, and then an even bigger reveal on top of that! Teenage love is always complicated, but throw in witchcraft, and you’re dealing with a different kind of monster.
Are you ready for a sneak peek at “Curse?” Beware, mild spoilers are ahead. Read at your own risk!
Cassie and Adam
At the end of “Lucky” Cassie (Britt Robertson) and Adam (Thomas Dekker) finally did the do. After months of hearing about how their love was “written in the stars,” they took action. Unfortunately, their encounter has a negative effect on everyone else in the circle. Their families (the Conants and Blakes) are cursed and can’t be together – ever! When they are, bad things happen. After learning the deadly consequences of their hook-up, they desperately try to make it right.
John (Joe Lando) is a questionable character. We don’t know much about him but his intentions with Cassie seem pure. He wants to protect her. He wants to keep her from the witch hunters, her dark magic and yes, even Adam. In “Curse,” he advises his daughter on how she can correct her mistake. He reveals that because of her actions, a member of the circle will die. Thankfully, he suggests a solution that could cure the injured party. John’s a layered character and this episode proves that. In one scene, he’s the supportive father Cassie needs, but in another he’s a ruthless dirtbag. Keep your eyes on this one.
Pour out a little liquor for our fallen soldier. Lee LaBeque (Grey Damon) is dunzo. Have you ever heard of the saying “no good deed goes unpunished?” He lived and died by that scenario. After bringing his girlfriend Eva (Alexia Fast) back from death’s door (with Faye’s powers), she turned on him. Once Eva learned about Lee and Faye’s (Phoebe Tonkin) relationship she wasn’t a happy camper. Next week, she’ll take her psycho antics to another level and this time, Faye’s the target.
There’s no nice way to say this: Jake (Chris Zylka) is about to go batsh*t crazy! Do you remember when he was working with the witch hunters? One of his dirtiest deeds was killing Calvin Wilson (Hiro Kanagawa), the owner of the antique shop. Well, it’s coming back to bite him in the butt. If that’s not bad enough, he finds out Cassie and Adam consummated their relationship. To say he’s pissed would be an understatement. But can you blame him? He loves the girl and she won’t give him the time of day. Jake will voice his disapproval more than once.
Cassie’s grandmother Jane (Ashley Crow) has been M.I.A. for a while. After Charles (Gale Harold) and Dawn (Natasha Henstridge) made her coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs she’s needed some time alone. In “Curse” she returns and seems to have all the answers. Don’t get us wrong, she’s still out of it, but Charles and Dawn (specifically Charles) have a new use for her. Vain side note: Charles looks great in this episode. Someone got a haircut!
Overall, “Curse” is one of this season’s better entries. The writers are really driving home the Romeo and Juliet meets witchcraft storyline. Cassie and Adam have a tough road ahead. Just when you think they’ve got everything figured out there’s a twist. We guess that’s what makes the show so entertaining. No one really wants to see them live happily ever after — not now anyway.
“The Secret Circle” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
