For some time now three venues have been selling tickets to The Dark Knight Rises for the IMAX 12:01 AM show on July 20, 2012, when the film is set to premiere. The Hunger Games has also announced that advanced tickets will be available come February 22, a month before the release of the hotly anticipated film.

You can hop on Fandango, and if you want to go to AMC Loews Metreon 16 in San Francisco, CA., AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 in New York, NY. (*now sold out, but perhaps more will be added)  or AMC CityWalk Stadium 19 in Los Angeles, CA to see The Dark Knight Rises, your moment has now arrived.  Supposedly these tickets were made available once the prologue for Christopher Nolan‘s latest started playing with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and now the word is out. And though people are surely excited about getting their tickets, there must be some reluctance based on the extreme distance between tickets and actually seeing the film. Again, New York is sold out, likely the others are almost gone. But this could be a strategy, and we may see more locations soon. We’ll keep you posted.

Perhaps more reasonably, The Hunger Games will start selling tickets a month out. This is tied into the game itself, as it’s seventy-four days before the 74th Hunger Games, as I understand. Though the film got a lot of attention as it was coming together, and they hope they have a blockbuster on their hands, perhaps we’ll see another The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo situation where the response is modest in comparison to the hype.

What unreleased movie would you buy a ticket for now?
