HBO’ Real Time with Bill Maher host/ outspoken atheist Bill Maher isn’t exactly a stranger to controversy, but a Christmas Eve tweet from the political talk show host/ comedian has landed him in a rather large vat of hot water, incurring the wrath of Fox News (go figure), as well as several people on Twitter calling for the cancellation of Maher’s program.
Why? It appears that Maher managed to name-drop Jesus, Satan, and Hitler all in one Christmas Eve tweet (which is kind of impressive, honestly) about the devastating Denver Bronco’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. The tweet was mainly a jab at Bronco’s quarterback Tim Tebow, a deeply religious man now known for his act of ‘Tebowing’: “getting down on one knee to pray in a crowd no matter what else is going on.”
Maher’s tweet is as follows:
“Wow, Jesus just f—d #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler “Hey, Buffalo’s killing them.”
Of course, that tweet didn’t exactly go over well, especially on Christmas Eve, with such folks as Fox News’ Eric Bolling dropping tweets like “Bill Maher is disgusting vile trash. I can’t even repeat what he just tweeted about Tebow..on Christmas Eve. #straighttohellBill,” with other people on Twitter demanding that HBO cancel Real Time.
As for Tebow, he simply tweeted “Tough game today but what’s most important is being able to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas everyone GB².”
What do you think of Maher’s tweet?
