Because, after the films Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon, and Hannibal Rising, along with four books, the character of Hannibal Lector isn’t becoming a tired rehash at all, NBC is launching a one hour drama about the cannibalistic doctor.
Which sounds like a pretty good idea, since no one really like movies like The Silence of the Lambs or Anthony Hopkins’ acting in the film anyway, so maybe NBC will finally get the story right. Right?
NBC has agreed to a 13 episode commitment, as long as they approve of writer Bryan Fuller’s script. So, next fall, we can look forward to at least 13 more hours of time with Hannibal the Cannibal, and we’ll be able to watch an actor pretend to be Anthony Hopkins, while the show itself will probably end up being a mind numbing and clichéd police-procedural program, just like every other crime-based show on television now. Or maybe it will be like the typical crappy NBC sitcom, and Hannibal Lector will move to a big city, and he will be a female editor at a fashion magazine, and be forced to confront the difficult and often hilarious complications of today’s crazy workaday world along with his wacky and slightly homely roommate, Multiple Miggs. Something like that.
What do you think of a Lector program?
