Ryan Murphy‘s hit show American Horror Story may be in its first couple episodes, but F/X has enough confidence in it to give it a second season. That’s a bold move for F/X – though the show order for it is 13 episodes per season, which is much smaller than network television’s usual 22 episodes. Horror Story, which stars Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott and Jessica Lange is currently airing on Wednesdays at 10 pm.

F/X reports the show has 4.2 Million viewers, and is one of the highest rated first seasons they’ve ever had. Horror fans haven’t totally been on board, but they’ve also complained about The Walking Dead, which has also had stellar ratings. Such also points out the awkward state of appealing to the base, who is often very finicky about what they like and why. Of course a horror show from the creator of Glee was always going to have its detractors.

The real question with the renewal is: how many of the cast do you keep for a horror show in its second season? The main cast are supposed to appear in every episode of the first season, and likely almost all the episodes of Season One have finished shooting at this point, but between now and the finale don’t be surprised if a character or two get axed.
