When not busy writing hacky, gimmick-ridden dialogue that is occasionally saved by the stellar acting skills of a film’s lead actress (Juno), and is sometimes not (Jennifer’s Body), Diablo Cody has decided to direct her first film, Lamb of God.  And now, she’s got two leads to either crumble beneath or shine in spite of her florid screenplay dialogue—Russell Brand and Julianne Hough.

It’s been a busy year for Cody, who, in addition to having written the upcoming Young Adult,  is also starting work on a Sweet Valley High cinematic adaptation as well as an Evil Dead remake (Jesus Christ, really?).  And now, as Cinema Blend notes, Lamb of God has now been re-titled Untitled Diablo Cody Project, “with Julianne Hough and Russell Brand bandied about as leads, and now Mandate Pictures has confirmed the casting and a spring start date.”

Cinema Blend has the untitled film’s synopsis as follows:

“The comedy follows a sheltered young woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash and decides to go to Las Vegasto experience the wild side of life.  On her journey, she meets an unlikely companion (Brand) who inadvertently helps her find her true self.”

So there you go.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you—the instant Russell Brand utters a phrase like “honest to blog,” I guarantee culture itself is going to collapse in on itself.

What do you think of the Diablo Cody news?
