In case you hadn’t heard, the cast of Dancing with the Stars’ thirteenth season has been announced.  And, amidst a sea of reality TV wash-ups (Kristin Cavallari and Rob Kardashian, please say hello), Chaz Bono, transgender spokesperson and child of Cher and Sonny Bono, was included in the cast—and his inclusion is ruffling some cultural feathers.

According to Reality TV Magazine, Bono has been paired off with dancer Lacey Schwimmer, and that “some folks are rallying behind him, while others are sharing their disgust that the transgender was asked to be on the show.”  Because, you know, it’s not like it’s 2011 or anything, and perhaps people could be a little more open minded as we enter the second decade of the 21st century.

Well, Schwimmer has taken to Twitter to defend her partner:

Lacey’s Tweets read: “I’m so thrilled to let you know that my dance partner on Dancing with the Stars is Chaz Bono. He is such an amazing person! And so sweet! Weeee…”, as well as “He has been working so hard this past week! Such a beautiful person inside and out! Team LaZZy?”

Ok, while those appear to be written by a 12 year old, the sentiment behind them is admirable.  Further:

“Why people feel it’s OK to judge, bully and harass others for being themselves is beyond me. Shame on you people!” Kudos to Lacey Schwimmer for standing up for her partner! Meanwhile, Chaz Bono Tweeted: “I’m having such a great time rehearsing with my amazing partner on DWTS,” adding that he was very happy and working hard.

Dancing with the Stars season 13 is set to premiere on September 19th.

What do you think of Chaz Bono’s inclusion in DWTS?
