Showtime’s hit drug dramedy “Weeds” returned Monday night for its seventh season. Mary Louise Parker reprised her role as suburban soccer mom turned pot dealer turned convict, Nancy Botwin. As “Weeds” ventures into another season, there’s a lot to be expected. Some contracts run out this year, including “Weeds’” creator Jenji Kohan, so listen up because this might just be the last “Weeds’” premiere.
The seventh season begins with Nancy finishing up her third year (three years have passed since the finale of season six) in prison for a crime – murder – she didn’t commit. Nancy heads to a halfway house in New York City, where we catch up with her brother-in-law Andy (Justin Kirk) and children, Silas and Shane (Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould).
The premiere was full of antics including puppeteering, lesbians, and teenagers dating older women. It’s an exciting first episode where we catch up on the lives of the “Weeds’” characters.
Currently “Weeds” has wrapped up five episodes of season 7, and an exciting guest role has been announced. According to EW, “Gossip Girl” bad-ass Michelle Trachtenberg will be guest starring on the show as Emma, a low-level dealer, and Nancy’s rival. As a devoted “Gossip Girl” watcher, I’ve got to say this is an excellent choice. Trachtenberg has the chops to be the perfect nemesis.
Don’t forget, “Weeds” airs every Monday at 10:00 P.M. on Showtime.
