When Robert DeNiro gained a ton of weight for Raging Bull, he did it for the art. When Christian Bale lost a ton of weight for The Machinist, man, he did it for the art. Hell, even that Jared Leto goober gained a lot of fat for that horrid Chapter 27 film to at least appear artsy. So, you’ve got to love It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia’s Rob McElhenney for gaining 50 pounds over the summer—just because he thought it might be funny.
According to The AV Club:
“Discussing the upcoming seventh season with Screen Junkies (and divulging a few more spoiler-y surprises about what to expect when the show returns in September), McElhenney’s co-star Charlie Day said that watching the dramatic weight change was ‘disgusting,’ and that it had the rest of the cast ‘a little on the fence about it for his own personal health and safety.’ However, Day adds that it has ‘definitely made Mac a lot funnier.’”
So there you go, budding comedians—want to make with the laugh-laugh? Just gain 50 pounds (also, it kinda would help to be on one of television’s funniest programs with some of TV’s best comedic actors).
What do you think of the Always Sunny?
