X-Men has been a decades-long favorite of the Marvel comic books, so it’s no surprise to see relaunch X-Men: First Class take the No. 1 spot in theaters on its opening weekend. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender led the superhero film’s stellar cast, and though the gross wasn’t as high as we’ve seen in past weekends, it’s admirable to see X-Men: First Class bring in a solid amount of money without 3D or IMAX tickets. After a record-breaking weekend (highest opening weekend numbers for a comedy), The Hangover Part II fell to second place with $32.4 million. Other films in the top five include Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and the hilarious Bridesmaids

Despite its absence from the mighty top ten, Tree of Life did come in at lucky No. 13 this weekend. The film doesn’t get its wide-release until Wednesday, but already it’s showing promise. However, it’s promising streak will likely be cut short by the release of the Steve Spielberg produced and J.J. Abrams-directed film Super 8.
