Things are beginning to look a little rough for Gotti: Three Generations, the “film about the Gambino crime family boss John ‘The Dapper Don’ Gotti and his son John Gotti, Jr.” It turns out that film, which is set to star John Travolta as Gotti, Sr. and co-star Joe Pesci, just lost its director, The Notebook and Alpha Dog helmsman Nick Cassavettes, according to /Film.
Apparently, it boils down to a scheduling conflict—Cassavetes is set to the “indie film Yellow, which is going on now with Ben Foster and Sienna Miller,” which would keep Cassavetes from being able to participate in preproduction of the mobster flick.
So now that the film is rudderless, the search is on for a director who can tackle the organized crime story that “[reveals] the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself.” And while it may be a hard project to pitch to a director—“Hey, do you wanna direct our new mob movie? It stars John Travolta! And we might even get Lindsay Lohan!”—the fact Pesci is onboard indicates that there must be something good about this script, right?
What do you think of the Gotti news?
