The yo-yoing world of Men in Black III, in which the film began shooting without anything beyond the “skeleton” of a script, which then was rewritten after part of the film had already shot while the movie slipped into the hiatus, just swung back up again—word is that Michael Stuhlbarg, of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, has been cast in the film.

/Film has it that Stuhlbarg will be joining Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, and Emma Thompson in the film, which sounds as convoluted as the making-of:

“The villainous Yaz (played by Clement) travels back in time to kill K, ‘which sets off a chain of events that ends in the destruction of the world.’ Enter Will Smith and Josh Brolin (as a Young K) to save the day.”

Stuhlbarg has apparently replaced Sharlto Copley as the character Griffen, a fast-talking Yoda type alien.”  It’s going to be a busy year for Stulbarg, who is also featured in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret.

Men in Black III is set to premiere on May 25, 2012.  And guess what, you guys?  The movie is going to be in 3D!  Gasp!  Wow!  Who could have seen that coming!  Aren’t you excited now!
