Wow.  You’ve got to hand it to Lars Von Trier (you might remember him for the cinematic freak-out that is Antichrist)—when he decides to make a movie about a wedding, he puts a definitively unique stamp on it.  Or so it seems in the trailer for his new film Melancholia, which centers around the wedding of Kirsten Dunst, which seems to be interrupted by turmoil between family members… and a planet previously hidden by the sun which is now on a collision course with Earth.  Yep.

According to /Film, Lars had this to say:

“In ‘Melancholia’ I start with the end. Because what is interesting is not what happens but how it happens! So we begin by seeing the world being crushed, then we can tell the story afterwards… In this way you don’t have to sit and form theories about what will happen, but can delve down into some other levels and become interested in the pictures and the universe – that’s what I imagine.”

Whatever your opinions are of Trier, you’ve got to admit, Melancholia looks gorgeous, and gorgeously weird.  Keep your eyes peeled for this one, it has yet to receive a U.S. release date.
