A new TV spot for the mysterious new J.J. Abrams / Steven Spielberg film Super 8 has been released, and it includes a few slivers of new footage.

First off, let me say that I have absolutely no idea what this film is about.

Secondly, it looks awesome.

Looking decidedly like the kind of film Spielberg would have directed in the early to mid ‘80s (translation, every movie you loved as a kid ever), the Abrams-helmed Super 8 is looking less and less like a Cloverfield rehash and more and more like the best popcorn-movie bet of this summer.

/Film has the plot breakdown:

“In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.”

While the plot description has it sounding like Cloverfield 2: Cloverfield Harder, the trailer below “very deliberately seeks to recapture the spirit of ’80s Amblin films,” as /Film aptly puts it.  As to how the final film will look remains to be seen, but dig this awesome teaser:

What do you think of the new Super 8 spot?
