Well, it’s been exactly 6.234 seconds since we’ve had a mob-related film, TV show, or TV movies, it was announced today that John Travolta will the tackle the real-life role of John Gotti Sr. in Gotti:  Three Generations.

The Hollywood Reporter has it that Nick Cassavetes will “direct the screenplay by Leo Rossi, which focuses on the relationship between John Gotti Sr., the head of the Gambino crime family who died in prison in 2002, and his son John Gotti Jr., who took over the family business for his father, served time in prison, but then successfully escaped conviction in four subsequent racketeering trials.”

Gotti Jr. has given the project his personal OK, and will join Travolta and producers at the Sheraton New York Hotel for a press conference on April 12.

It’s a little hard imagining Travolta playing a wiseguy like The Dapper Don (aka Gotti Sr.), but it is intriguing to imagine him returning to the indie crime film world (he did it before in the 1990s, in some movie called Pulp something or other).  It might be a pleasant return to badass cinema for Travolta, rather than films like Old Dogs and Wild Hogs, etc.

What do you think of the Travolta-Gotti news?
