Box Office Predictions: Hop To Win Weekend
By Scott SchachterAfter a surprise win at the box office last weekend, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules we’ll see if new competition from Russell Brand’s Hop, Jake Gyllenhaal’s, Source Code, and the horror thriller Insidious is able to take down the kiddy flick! Meanwhile, hold overs like Limitless, Lincoln Lawyer will fight to stay in the top 5 at this weekend box office. All in all, it should be a fun weekend at the box office. And now for our predictions….
#1 Hop
As the success of Gnomeo & Juliet, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, Rango have shown audiences are willing to pay top dollar for films at aimed children. This weekend should be no different as Hop has the added star power of the likable Russell Brand, a strong marketing campaign, and solid reviews. Look for Hop to land at the # 1 spot this weekend.
Our Prediction $26-32M Opening Weekend Box Office
#2 Diary Of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
With a surprise box office win last weekend, solid midweek numbers, and good word of mouth look for Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules to hold strong against Hop and come in at the #2 spot this weekend.
Our Prediction: $15-16M Weekend Box Office
#3 Limitless
After opening unexpectedly in the number one spot, a strong box office hold last weekend, Limitless has become the surprise box office success of the season solidifying Bradley Cooper’s status as an A-List movie star. Limitless should continue its strong performance at the box office this weekend and land at the #3 spot.
Our Prediction: $11-12M Weekend Box Office
#4 Source Code
While Jake Gyllenhaal may be a house hold name, he has yet to prove himself as a box office star with duds like last years Prince Of Persia, and Love and Other Drugs. With a generic title, poor reviews, and weak marketing campaign look for Source Code to be another in a long line of box office disappointments from Jake Gyllenhaal and open at#4.
Our Prediction: $10M Opening Weekend Box Office
# 5 The Lincoln Lawyer
The Matthew Mcconaughey adult thriller has been playing well to audiences over the past two weeks and this weekend should be no different. With solid reviews, strong word of mouth, Mcconaughey looks to have his biggest hit in years and a possible franchise as well. Look for The Lincoln Lawyer to come in at the # 5 spot this weekend.
Our Prediction $8M Weekend Box Office
#6 Sucker Punch
Our Prediction: $7.5M Opening Weekend Box Office.
#7 Insidious
Our Prediction: $7M Weekend Box Office
#8 Rango
Our Prediction:$6M Weekend Box Office
#9 Paul
Our Prediction $4.5M Weekend Box Office
#10 Battle: Los Angeles
Our Prediction: $3.5M Weekend Box Office

Where are you reading the poor reviews about Source Codefrom? RottenTomatoes has Source Code at 91% right now and IMDB has given it an 8.1 out of 10.

Hop has solid reviews? It's 24% on RT right now. As for Russell Brand, didn't know he was even in it and, for me, now even less reason to see it. Marsden' s likeable, but this film looks tasteless and dumb, even for kids.
