There’s nothing like a great crime-thriller… but then there are all the rest and Setup appears to be a part of the latter. Now don’t get my wrong, Bruce Willis is one of the easiest men in the world to watch on screen and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been building up his acting rep, but this trailer just reeks of cliches and bad writing. The fact that it was directed by professional stuntman Mike Gunther will either make it an extremely awesome popcorn flick with action like we’ve never seen (and a story-line basic enough to hold it together) or another action film with absolutely NO story-line and acting that makes you more afraid than the villain.

This wants to be like some of the 2010 crime-dramas of last year; The Town, Animal Kingdom or Brooklyn’s Finest but it appears like it will be more like every other mediocre crime-thriller with a lot of twists and absolutely no substance.

Taking a risk is one thing, but this looks more like a nose dive. There’s a quick appearance from James Remar which gives us some hope, but that’s about it. Ryan Phillippe only seems in indie films or with amazing director – will he see this as worth his time? Will Bruce Willis be enough to hold it all together? Lord knows he only acts when he feels compelled.

The film is still listed as being in post-production right now and will be in theaters at some point this year.
