One of the more anticipated films of the summer is Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, but so far there’s only been a poster, and the Super Bowl TV spot for a film that opens July 22. Now comes word from Entertainment Tonight that they will be debut the film’s trailer tonight, which suggests that the film’s trailer will be attached to Sucker Punch this weekend. There is some shield throwing in there, but if this is all from the new trailer, then it’s likely that the trailer is going to be an expanded version of the Super Bowl spot. We’ve already got a bit of a look at Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull, but at this point it’s good to have more to get people excited.

The film feels like this should be an easy sell because – though there’s been word that the film is about to do some reshoots – it’s easily the best buzzed about superhero film of the summer. Warner Brothers has The Green Lantern, and it’s surprising that we haven’t heard anything from them in a while from them, but perhaps they’re waiting for WonderCon to start hitting hard. Still, for a franchise tent-pole release, it seems quiet. X-Men: First Class had reshoots and little footage until recently, and Thor is Thor.Captain is the one that supposedly delivers the goods, and when the trailer is on-line, we’ll post it as soon as we can.
