It seems eventually Hollywood will churn out every Dr. Seuss book into a movie, and the latest of the Dr. Seuss classics to hit film form is The Lorax. Added to the cast are Danny DeVito, Taylor Swift and Zac Efron, along with Ed Helms, Rob Riggle and Betty White. Universal will be releasing the picture and the animation will be done by Illumination Entertainment, who were behind Despicable Me and did the CG animation for Hop.

Universal has been the home of two previous Seuss adaptions with The Grinch who Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat. The former was a runaway success, the latter considered something akin to what happens when cousins marry. Blue Sky Animation – the Fox-based company behind the Ice Age films  – did the successful Horton Hears a Who, so it appears no one studio has a lock on Theodor “Dr.” Seuss Geisel’s estate, and it also appears that he has become a small cottage industry for big-screen adaptations. “Green Eggs and Ham” must be in the works.

Danny Devito has been cast as The Lorax, with Efron and Swift playing the love interests, and Efron on the hunt for The Lorax. Ed Helms has been tapped to voice the Once’ler, Rob Riggle will be playing King O’ Hare, and Betty White will voice Norma, the grandmother to Efron’s character.

Do you think they’ll eventually turn Goodnight, Moon into a film?
