No, that’s not a Yanni album cover, it’s an image from the teaser trailer for the Marcus Nispel remake of Conan the Barbarian! The teaser for the August-bound sword and sandal film is a little smokey. Actually, it’s mostly blurred images and impressions of sword swinging and women and for those hoping to get a bearing on Jason Momoa take on the lead role made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’re going to have to wait for the next trailer. This is a teaser in the classic sense of the word – you’re not getting much but impressions. Take a look…
Very Little here is shown of Momoa, or supporting players like Rose McGowan, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman, Leo Howard, and Said Taghmaoui. In fact it’s hard to confirm who from the supporting cast is in this teaser. This is just a tease, and like everything so far with this project it could go either way.
For those who are fans of the Robert E. Howard source material or the John Milius-directed 80′s movie, there’s nothing here that confirms or denies how the film will end up. But in that sense, the trailer is disappointing in that right now what people are most curious about with this project is this: Can Nispel and Momoa deliver something on the level of the first Conan film, or is this going to be another in a long line of crappy sword and sorcery movies that followed in the wake of Lord of the Rings?
If the film is R rated, at least it will offer some red meat to a genre that’s become exceptionally kid-friendly.
Do you think this Conan wants to crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and to hear the lamentation of their women?
