The Three Stooges movie is still going strong despite its multiple casting issues. The original three amigos may have jumped ship (Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Jim Carrey), but that hasn’t kept directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly down. They’re going to make this movie happen if it’s the last thing they do! According to Variety, one of the potential stars they’re courting is Jackass frontman Johnny Knoxville, who according to Variety, is officially in talks to star.

The trade reports that 20th Century Fox wants Knoxville to play Moe, in the trio of comedians. It’s the role that del Toro was previously up to play before everything went south. They claim that Knoxville’s addition to the cast could signal a shift in the direction of the film. It shows that they’re trying to attract a younger audience that might not be familiar with The Three Stooges brand.

You might be asking yourself, will this be a biopic or a comedic vignette like most of the Stooges work? Apparently, “the plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy.” That sounds more like a replica of the comedien’s old routines than anything else. For some odd reason we thought they were going to cover the seedy underbelly of their world. We guess not.

What do you think of Knoxville possibly playing Moe in The Three Stooges? Good choice?
