The first photos from Steven Spielberg’s long awaited drama War Horse have hit the net. They feature young up and comer Jeremy Irvine, who plays the protagonist in the story of love and friendship between a boy and his horse. If the following photos are any indication of what this movie has to offer, it’s definitely going to be a tearjerker. Take a look…

Irvine revently did an interview with The Daily Mail, and admitted that he was in complete shock when he learned he got the part of Albert. He beat out hundreds of young actors for the role and after being asked back for multiple auditions he got the “call” from his agent.

‘Steven Spielberg would like to have a cup of tea with you tomorrow morning at nine o’clock, can you do that?’ the agent said. ‘Ah, yes, I think I can,’ Jeremy replied.

The film stars several notable U.K. actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Kennedy, and Tom Hiddleston. The first two actors both appeared in Joe Wright’s Atonement, and the latter will make his impression on U.S. audiences when he appears as Loki in the comic book film Thor.

War Horse is slated to hit theaters on December 28, 2011, just in time for awards season.
