Captain America: The First Avenger will hit theaters this summer and we’ve just discovered some amazing casting news. Yes, we know it sounds insane to announce casting info this close to the release date, but it’s really good! Over at BlackFilm, they’ve discovered that Derek Luke (Friday Night Lights, Antwone Fisher) will appear in the movie as one of the Hollowing Commandos!
Luke will star as Gabe Jones, the first African-American to fight in an integrated unit. He’ll be a close confident and ally to Nick Fury, whom we all know will go on to become the head honcho of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the comic world, Jones appeared in nearly every issue of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos. The character was known for going into battle with a trumpet in one hand and a gun in the other.
We’re excited to hear about Luke’s addition, but why haven’t they publicized this in the past? He’s a great actor to have on their roster. Overall, we haven’t been that excited about the film but Luke’s casting has piqued our interest. Talk about finding a diamond in the rough!
What do you think of Gabe being in the film?
