Last week, there was a rumor circulating that Oscar winning film composer Trent Reznor was going produce the score of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and appear on screen in a supporting role. After the news swept the net like wildfire, Reznor himself has decided to clear up any misunderstanding about his involvement in the film.

Here’s Reznor wrote on the official Nine Inch Nails forum:

“[Timur] asked me if I was interested in scoring his new film he’s doing with Tim Burton entitled ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’,” Reznor writes, “I was familiar with the book, read the script and it felt like an interesting challenge as a composer – very different from the Fincher films. While discussing the film with Timur he started gently pressing me to play a small role in the film. The idea was a cameo-esque role that would be kept under wraps and be a surprise around opening night. I was considering this when I awoke a few days ago to the news I am now STARRING in ‘ALVH’ (which is obviously not true). F–k. We both apparently forgot the internet existed AND THERE ARE NO SURPRISES anymore. So… do me a favor and act surprised, OK?”

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov and produced by Tim Burton. The film is a fictionalized creation of the former U.S President which mixes historical events with fantasy. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is known for his ability to blend classic figures and properties with old school horror elements. In the book and the film Lincoln is re-imagined as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2012.

What do you think about Reznor’s cameo?
